Saturday, May 11, 2019 by Eva Easton 5 Comments

Written gh has no sound of its own.
It’s never pronounced as it’s written, ie. /gh/.

Sometimes written gh even disappears,
as in the Secret 7 past tense verbs.

And now it’s your turn.
Here’s your audio pronunciation quiz.
How do you spell the word that you hear?

Hello. Just fyi that it would get you more traffic if you added “ough pronunciation” rather than just “gh”. I tried searching for this page for so long and then i found it in my history luckily. but the problem was that for some reason when I searched last year, it came up just fine with ough but now you don’t rank for that search term (ough pronunciation american english). anyway, I love this resource thank you! my french speaking students are so afraid of this and they always feel better after we go through this. <3
