I wonder how an American pronounces…
turtle

/ˈtɚ–dəl/

turtle
/ˈtɚ–dəl/

Notice that you can hear 2 syllables:  /ˈtɚ–dəl/

1.  tur = /tɚ/

Written u + r is always pronounced /ɚ/.
To make the /ɚ/ sound, pull your tongue to the back of your mouth.

2.  tle = /dəl/

turtle
/ˈtɚ
–dəl/

I checked websites to find out the main
difference between turtles and tortoises.

Google says:

Turtles live in the water some or nearly all of the time
Tortoises are land animals.
