I wonder how an American pronounces…
stress on the 2nd syllable
only has 1 form = plural noun
related to the verb “to deserve”
People get the punishment they deserve.
He thought he wouldn’t get caught,
but he got his just deserts in the end.
Eventually the pickpocket will get his just deserts.
just deserts … just desserts
/d͡ʒʌst-dɪ-ˈzɚts/ … /d͡ʒʌst-dɪ-ˈzɚts/
Be sure to notice the difference in spelling
between “just deserts” and “just desserts.”
And here’s a practice sentence
for all of you from my old pal, Srećko.
“If I just could desert this hot desert, I’d go somewhere to have
a cold dessert, even if I would eventually get my just deserts.
Thinking of ice cream, while studying English pronunciation.” 🙂
Srećko, you only have to worry about getting
your just deserts if you steal the ice cream. ;–)
